Turmeric, sometimes referred to as Tumeric, is a flowering plant in the ginger family. The roots have been used in traditional cooking and Ayurvedic remedies throughout India and the Himalayas. Turmeric powder is known for its yellowish color and warm, earthy, peppery taste qualities. This longstanding Ayurvedic staple is known botanically as Curcuma longa, and within Ayurvedic practice it has been referred to as Haridra. Turmeric is revered in Ayurveda, Hinduism, Buddhism and traditional Chinese remedies for its anti-inflamatory and joint health properties.
